I have been training with a kettlebell on and off for three or four years now. I tend to do it mainly in the spring and summer months, when the weather is so nice that I just hate to be in the gym. It makes for great training out of doors. And it honestly does make for a refreshing and challenging alternative from classic barbells and dumbbells. Kettlebell training is challenging, and it adds a new dynamic. I find it combines resistance and cardio training quite nicely, but it may not suit some who prefer one over the other.
To the book itself: Pavel's information is actually quite useful. In all of his books, the information is solid and there is actually plenty of scientific fact to back it up. Unfortunately, he shows a great apathy toward actually citing those scientific facts and explaining them. Therein lay the biggest problem with all his titles.
Pavel is the definition of a former communist eagerly embracing capitalism in all its green glory. He constantly plugs his other books and products. He uses hammy and over the top showmanship to try to make his products more likeable and trendy to potential customers. He keeps his books slim so he can release more later on-all at rather disproportionate prices, of course. He makes the classic claims of all fitness entrepreneurs that his methods and products will give miracle results with practically no effort at all. And he pretty much assumes that the majority of the general public are morons who just want to skip to the end, so why bother them with the details?
He's trying to make a bigger buck. Can't be blamed for that. However, it does rob him and his titles of some legitimacy that might be reclaimed if he would start compressing some of his books into single editions, and chose to add just a bit more fact and a bit less boisterousness.

The Russian Kettlebell Challenge Overview

If you are looking for a supreme edge in your chosen sport—seek no more!

Both the Soviet Special Forces and numerous world-champion Soviet Olympic athletes used the ancient Russian Kettlebell as their secret weapon for xtreme fitness. Thanks to the kettlebells’s astonishing ability to turbocharge physical performance, these Soviet supermen creamed their opponents time-and-time-again, with inhuman displays of raw power and explosive strength.

Now, former Spetznaz trainer, international fitness author and nationally ranked kettlebell lifter, Pavel Tsatsouline, delivers this secret Soviet weapon into your own hands.

You NEVER have to be second best again! Here is the first-ever complete kettlebell training program—for Western shock-attack athletes who refuse to be denied—and who’d rather be dead than number two.

-Own the single best conditioning tool for killer sports like kickboxing, wrestling, and football

-Watch in amazement as high-rep kettlebells let you hack the fat off your meat—without the dishonor of aerobics and dieting
